William Henry Corbitt, Sr., 80, of Valdosta, passed away on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at Langdale Hospice House. Born in Waresboro, Georgia on August 5, 1945, Henry was a son of William Alfred Corbitt and Rosa Lee Taylor Corbitt. Raised in Ware County, he attended Ware County High School before joining the Marine Corps in the mid 1960’s and served two tours in Vietnam before discharging from the Marines in 1975. After his military career, he collaborated with his father in turpentine farming and ranching in Orlando. While in Orlando he met the former Darlene Bouters, and they were married on July 27, 1968. Returning to Ware County, Henry started a career in law enforcement. He served in law enforcement in Lakeland and Homerville before joining the Valdosta Police Department in 1977. Henry served in Valdosta for 20 years and then continued as a City Marshall for Valdosta until his retirement in 2001. Henry loved to fish the flats of the Gulf of Mexico. He was a devoted and patient father and grandfather.
Survivors are his wife of 57 years, Darlene Joy Corbitt of Valdosta; sons, William “Billy” H. Corbitt, Jr., of Valdosta, Timothy J. Corbitt, Sr. and his wife Lucretia of Valdosta, Brandon Lee Earl Corbitt and his wife Susan of Hahira; grandchildren, Elizabeth Corbitt and Kenneth Vickers of Ty Ty, William “Bubba” Corbitt III and Darrian Ruff of Lake Park, Timothy “TJ” Corbitt, Jr. of Lubbock, Texas, Trenton Corbitt of Valdosta, Noah Corbitt and Elaina Corbitt of Hahira,; great grandchildren, William “Drake” Corbitt IV of Lake Park, Luke Vickers and Lydia Vickers of Ty Ty; numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters, Calvin Corbitt, Tony Corbitt, Lou Corbitt, Marion Henderson, Libby Hopkins, Betty May, Colleen Griffis and Velda Corbitt. In addition to his parents Henry was preceded in death by several other brothers and sisters.
A graveside service and urn committal with military honors for William Henry Corbitt, Sr. will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at North Cemetery in DuPont, Georgia.
