William Briggs Tyler, Iii

April 20, 1937 — April 16, 2013

William Briggs Tyler, III, 75, of Valdosta died Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born in Hahira on April 20, 1937 and was the son of the late Christelle Wilkins Barfield and the late William Briggs Tyler, Jr. Mr. Tyler was a retired wholesale plumbing, heating and air conditioning salesman. Mr. Tyler lived in Valdosta until 1968 and then he and his family moved to Augusta where they lived thirty five years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Augusta and served as a Deacon. He returned to this area in August of 2003 and became a member of the First Baptist Church in Valdosta.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Smith Tyler of Valdosta, three daughters and one son in law, Beverly and Mitch Denning of Jacksonville, Fla., Joni Tyler Colson of Atlanta, Cindy Tyler of Tallahassee, Fla., eight grandchildren, Ann Marie Denning, Tyler Denning, Elizabeth Denning, Ben Colson and his wife, Lauren, Brooke Colson, Nick Ellison, Briggs Ellison, Matthew Ellison, two brothers and sisters in law, Richard E. and Jeri Tyler of Buford, GA., Jerry W. and Maryann Tyler of Roswell, GA, sister and brother in law, Beth and Jack Pitcher of Nakomis, FL.

Briggs played basketball and baseball at Hahira High School and went on to play baseball at Georgia Southern College where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in 1959. He loved fishing and hunting and watching anything sports related, especially the Atlanta Braves. He also had a passion for planting and watching the growth of pinetrees.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Saturday, April 20, 2013 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with his brother, Rev. Jerry W. Tyler officiating. Burial will follow in the Friendship Cemetery in Hahira. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 19, 2013 from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
