Victoria Pennington

December 17, 1943 — January 2, 2015

Pennington, Victoria Lee Paynter, passed away in Valdosta on January 2, 2015. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, she resided in Valdosta since 1990. She was a retired Associate Professor Emeritus of Valdosta State University, where she was a member of the Theatre faculty. In addition, she served as Production Supervisor of the Jekyll Island Musical Theatre Festival from 1990 through 1999. Ms. Pennington received her Master of Arts degree in Costuming Design from the University of Florida in 1985. She served as President of the Southeastern Theatre Conference in 2000 and received SETC's Distinguished Service to Theater Award in 2005. She was also Executive Director of the Georgia Theatre Conference from 2004 to 2007 and was the recipient of GTC's Leighton Ballew Award for Distinguished Service to Theatre in Georgia in 2008. She was also a member of Actor's Equity Association.

She is survived by her sister, Linda Adams, of Eighty-Four, PA, and her two daughters, Robin, of Washington, D.C., and Autumn, of Richfield, MN, and two grandchildren.

A memorial reception will be held on Tuesday, January 13th at the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts, in Valdosta, from 4:00 to 6:00pm.
