Vicky Van Beek Karr, known lovingly as "Awmah" to her grandsons, passed away on October 12, 2026, in Jacksonville, Florida, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 73 years old.

Vicky was born on July 12, 1953, in Aberdeen, Washington. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Oregon, and after graduating, she became a Certified Public Accountant. She was sharp, capable, and dedicated to her work, but the people who knew her best will tell you that her heart was always her greatest gift.

If someone needed help, Vicky was there, no questions asked. Her door was always open, and anyone who walked through it was welcomed like family. She had a wonderful sense of humor that could brighten any room, and she had a real talent for soaking up everything life had to offer. She loved to travel and see new places, but nothing made her happier than spending time with her grandsons, and she took every chance she could get to be with them.

Vicky was also a devoted animal lover. She shared her life with many beloved pets over the years and gave regularly to animal rescues and other charities, quietly making the world a little kinder for creatures who couldn't speak for themselves.

Vicky is survived by her daughter, Whitney Karr Brown, Richard Lyle Karr, the father of her children, son-in-law, Derek Shawn Brown; her grandsons, Ayden Shawn Brown and Ryan Gilbert Brown; her brothers, Stanly Van Beek and Rex Van Beek.

She was preceded in death by her son, Zachary Ryan Karr, and her parents, Donna and Russel Van Beek. Her family takes comfort in their Christian faith and in knowing that Vicky has now been reunited with her beloved son.

Visitation will be held on November 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Carson McLane Funeral Home, 2215 N. Patterson St., Valdosta, GA 31602, followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. A graveside service will take place immediately afterward at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens, 3945 N. Valdosta Rd., Valdosta, GA 31602. Family and friends are invited to a reception afterward at the Stone Creek Golf Club Restaurant, 4553 Greenway Dr., Valdosta, GA 31602, in the neighborhood where Vicky raised her children and which she held so dear.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation in Vicky's honor to the Humane Society or the American Cancer Society, two causes close to her heart.

Online condolences may be shared on the obituary page at www.mclanecares.com.
