Stan Shannon, 90, of Lake Park
February 1, 1935 – August 6, 2025
Tillman Stanley (Stan) Shannon, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Langdale Hospice House. Born on February 1, 1935, to the late Robert Lee Cooper Shannon and Vida Lee Harper Shannon, Stan lived a full and remarkable life marked by service, dedication, and passion.
A proud Naval Aviator, Mr. Shannon served as a pilot for the U.S. Navy and was a distinguished member of the Naval Aviator Choir. His musical talents gained national recognition when he appeared with the choir on the Ed Sullivan Show. His love for community and culture extended beyond his military service; he served as an escort for the Miss America Pageant, Miss Minnesota, Miss Holland, and Miss Universe Pageant, embodying grace and charm.
Stan was a lifelong learner, having attended several institutions including the University of Georgia (UGA), Valdosta State College (VSC), University of Florida (UF), Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC), and Florida Atlantic University. Professionally, he worked as the senior medical representative for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, where he made significant contributions.
A leader and enthusiast of nautical pursuits, he was a past Commander of the Valdosta Yacht Club and cherished his home in Anguilla, which he enjoyed for 14 years. Stan was an MG British car enthusiast and restorer. His pride and joy was his 1955 Red MGA. He also restored numerous MGBs and Midgets.
Stan was a land developer, being one of the crew instrumental in engineering and designing Sportsman's Cove in the 1970s. He and the other developers donated the huge lake behind Fishnet Restaurant to the University of Georgia for research purposes some years ago.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carrol Shannon, of Lake Park; daughters Amanda Carol Shannon of Lake Park, Amy Shannon Scarborough (Steve Scarborough) of Dawsonville, GA, Carrol and Ronald Hays of Camilla, GA, Cheryl and Kevin Quigg of Valdosta, GA, and Christy and Charlton Salter of Port St. Joe, FL. Stan was a proud grandfather to Annalise and Caleb Espy, Sterling Franklin Abney, Samson Fordham Abney, and Gage Greneker, and great-grandfather to Cash Espy and Cade Espy. He also leaves behind his sister, Norma Jean Corak (Bob), of Albany, GA.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Anna Lee Greneker, and grandchild Steven Fordham Abney.
A funeral service honoring Stan's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 8, 2025, at the chapel of McLane Lakewood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Those wishing to share condolences may do so online at www.mclanefuneralservices.com.
