Thomas Lavelle Webb, 89, of Valdosta died at his home on Tuesday, July 24, 2018. He was born in Lowndes County, Georgia on May 23, 1929, to the late Thomas Ivey and Birdie Price Webb. Lavelle married Lyndal on February 11, 1951, and was a lifetime resident of the Bemiss Community. As a member of the Bemiss United Methodist Church for 53+ years, he held many leadership roles, especially as an adult Sunday School teacher for most of that time.
Before graduating from Pine Grove High School, his interest in the Vocational Agriculture Program led to his election as first vice-president of the state Future Farmers of America. After attending two years at ABAC and graduating from the University of Georgia College of Agriculture, he devoted himself to 45 years of rewarding farming with family involvement. During that time there were opportunities for many years of community service with a Farm Supply Cooperative, Park Avenue Bank, Farm Credit Association (33 years), Colquitt Electric Membership Cooperative and related entities (30 years). After retirement in 1994, he maintained a beautiful garden, researched family ancestry, restored three antique tractors, became a skilled birdwatcher, and remained an avid reader. “My role” he said, “is one of hanging on and observing and learning more about love.”
Survivors include his wife, Lyndal Miller Webb of Valdosta; four daughters and sons in law: Fredonia (Charles) Ray of Valdosta, Nancy (Rick) Nevil of Gunter, TX, Gay (Michael) Davis of Valdosta, Susan (Mark) Elsinger of Kennesaw, GA; his grandchildren, Hannah (Lee) Wetherington of Hahira, Rebekah (John) Martin of Valdosta, Webb (Marina) Spriggs of Dallas, TX, Jeremy (Charlotte) Davis, Olivia (Ashley) Fletcher all of Valdosta, Amy (A.T.)
