Thelma B. Downing

Thelma B. Downing, 95, of Valdosta died Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at Presbyterian Home in Quitman. She was born on October 29, 1924 in Cook County to the late Charlie and Aline Bennett. Mrs. Downing was a homemaker and a Baptist. She enjoyed fishing and working in her and her children’s flower beds. Mrs. Downing was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Joyce and Robert Hardee of Pinetta, FL, son in law, Thomas Swails of Valdosta, grandchildren, T. J. Swails (Kristen), Sharon Hardee, Jennifer Gosseck (Joseph), great grandchildren, Jessica Wills, Katherine Rodriguez, Roxanne Gosseck, Junior Gosseck, Cameron Swails and Macy Swails and great great grandson, Braden McMillan. Mrs. Downing is predeceased by her husband, Julian R. Downing, daughter, Dianne Swails, son, Jimmy R. Downing and daughter, Judy Downing.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 25, 2020 at eleven a. m. in the chapel of the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home in Lake Park with Brother Murrell Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Lake Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from five until seven p. m. at the funeral home.
