Teri Elizabeth Grinsted, 50, of Valdosta, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024. Born on April 20, 1973, Teri was a long-time resident of Parkwood Developmental Center. Teri loved her family at Parkwood and was adored by Parkwood staff. Teri, with the assistance of her parents, advocated for improving the quality of life for disabled individuals. Teri was instrumental in changing Georgia law to ensure special-education needs are met in the county in which the disabled student resides. Teri also participated in medical research for RETT Syndrome, a genetic neurological disorder, by working with her local neurologist in Valdosta and the University of Alabama. She loved music, dancing and was an avid animal lover, especially dogs. She also delighted in watching Animal Planet and playing pranks on anyone she could.
Teri is survived by her mother, Cheryl Savikis of Bonaire, Georgia; Father, Terry Grinsted of Leesburg, Georgia; Brother, Brandon Grinsted of Bonaire, Georgia; Stepbrother, Jonathan Grinsted of Panama City, Florida; Aunt, Judy Smith of St. Simons Island, Georgia; Aunt Susan Sanders of Tallahassee, Florida; Aunt Diane Vargas of Orlando, Florida and Uncle, Robert Smith of Jackson, Georgia.
Ms. Grinsted will be cremated. There will be no services held at this time. Online condolences can be shared on the obituary page at www.mclanecares.com.
