Teresa Lorry Cooley, lovingly known to all as “Sissy,” age 53, passed away peacefully on April 11th at 6:30pm, surrounded by her family and an abundance of love.

Born on January 25, 1973 in Albany, Georgia, Sissy was a deeply cherished daughter, sister, granddaughter, and aunt. Though her given name was Teresa, to everyone who knew and loved her, she was simply “Sissy”—a name given to her by her family after her younger brother was born. It was a name she loved, one she carried proudly, and one that became her identity to everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Sissy lived her life with a joyful spirit and a heart that overflowed with love. She had a natural gift for making people smile and laugh, always ready with a practical joke for her Aunt Pat or Granny Sarah, a playful moment, or a look that could brighten even the hardest day. She was truly a blessing to anyone around her.

She found happiness in life’s simple and meaningful moments—spending time doing word search puzzles, listening to her favorite music from artists like Neal McCoy, Kenny Chesney, and Rick Astley, and watching her beloved television show, Survivor. Sissy was also a devoted Alabama football fan, proudly cheering on the Crimson Tide alongside her dad, a tradition that brought her so much joy.

Sissy loved being active and part of her community. She participated in the Special Olympics and the Challenger League through the YMCA, where she enjoyed playing basketball and bowling. These were not just activities to her—they were moments of joy and pride.

She is survived by her loving family: her parents, Terrie and Larry Cooley; her brother, Bryant; her grandmother, Sarah Cooley; her Aunt Pat, Aunt Lynn, and Uncle Lynn; her nieces Layla and Madison; along with many extended family members and friends who will forever hold her close in their hearts.

Sissy had a way of making everyone feel special. She loved deeply, laughed often, and brought a kind of light into the world that cannot be replaced. Though our hearts are broken, we are so grateful for the love and joy she gave us throughout her life.

Her laughter, her spirit, and the love she shared so freely will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who cared for Sissy, especially during her final days, for their compassion, kindness, and support.
