Susan Hancock Touchton, 76, of Lake Park, died on Sunday, May 18, 2025 after a period of declining health. Born in Quitman to the late James & Mary Hancock on March 11, 1949, she moved with her family to Lake Park at an early age. She graduated from Lowndes High School in 1967 and played basketball with the Vikettes while there. She met Raymond Touchton at church, and they began dating and were married at Lake Park Church of God on May 25, 1968. Susan soon started her family and stayed home when the girls were little. When they started going to school, she became a bus driver for the Lowndes County School System and drove buses for 18 years. After the girls graduated, she went back to school to become a CMA and worked at Dr. Brian Griner’s Office for 15 years, until she retired. Susan was a devoted member of Pentecostal Deliverance Center in Jennings, FL for 45 years. She played the piano for church until her eyesight wouldn’t let her continue.
Survivors include her two daughters and sons in law, Gayle & Maxie Williams of Valdosta and Gina & Angelo Cox of Statenville; four grandchildren, Colt Cox, Cuyler Cox and Amber Cox of Statenville and Jeremiah Williams of Valdosta. Also surviving are three sisters in law, Janice Hancock of Valdosta, Iva & George Porter of Lake Park and Sue Touchton of Ocala, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Touchton and two brothers, Glenn Hancock and Jimmy Hancock.
The funeral for Mrs. Touchton will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, in the chapel of McLane Lakewood Funeral Home. Pastor Edgar Wood will officiate. Burial will follow at Lake Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at McLane Lakewood Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 pm.
