Sidney Morris, 83, of Valdosta, died on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at Langdale Hospice House. Born in Valdosta at the Little Griffin Hospital on August 15, 1940, to the late Simon & Virginia Katz Morris, he was a lifelong resident of this area. Sidney grew up attending Valdosta City Schools and graduated from Valdosta High School in 1958. He went on to attend the University of Georgia and then graduated from Valdosta State University. For many years, Sidney operated M&M Music with Jack Myers and spent a lot of time volunteering in Valdosta, a community he loved. He spent time supporting the Valdosta Soup Kitchen, he served on the LAMP Board of Directors, and supported the Turner Arts Center. As an avid golfer, Sidney was a past president of the Valdosta Country Club and a board member of the South Georgia Senior Golf Association. He also took great pride in the Jewish community in South Georgia and was a member and former President of Temple Israel. Flying a single engine private airplane was also a favorite pastime of Sidney’s.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Sharon Morris of Valdosta, two sisters, Hylda Wilson and Marilyn & Dr. Edmund Barron; two sisters in law, Gail Barr and Terri Pesso; several nieces and nephews, Steve & Patty Wilson, Stacey & Bob Levin, Betty Morris Braun, Stuart Barron, Mindy Barron, Adrian Barr, Derek Barr, CJ & Rita Michaels and Alex Michaels. Also surviving are great nieces and nephews, Colin Wilson, Brenna Wilson, Skye Sullivan, Gracie Hogan, Jenny Sullivan, Simone Braun, Gabrielle Hogan, Ethan Barr, Aaron Barr, Brody Barr, Kenzie Michaels, Oliver Michaels and Ben Feagin. Sidney is preceded in death by his brother Myer Morris.
A graveside service will be held at Noon on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, in the Hebrew Section of Sunset Hill Cemetery. Rabbi Moshe Elbaz will officiate.
