Shirley Hoye Martin

August 5, 2014 — March 13, 1921

Shirley Hoye Martin, 93, of Valdosta died Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Langdale Place. She was born on March 3, 1921 in Valdosta to Karl and Euna Roberts Hoye. Mrs. Martin was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a past president of Valdosta Duplicate Bridge Club and Valdosta Junior Service League. She graduated from Valdosta High School and attended Huntington College in Alabama and Georgia State College for Women (now Valdosta State University). She was a homemaker and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her daughter, Russell Martin Smith and husband, Jim; her son, Dr. J. William Martin and wife Zan; her grandchildren, Matthew Lawrence, and wife Esther-Marie; Catherine Lawrence Hunter, and husband Greg; Elizabeth Martin; and four great grandchildren all of Valdosta. Mrs. Martin is also survived by her sister, Euna Hoye Love of Columbia, SC. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, J. W. Martin, Jr. and her grandson, William Lawrence Martin.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 11am at the family gravesite at Sunset Hill Cemetery with Rev. Mac Weaver officiating.
