Shelby Lynn Mixon (September 17, 2001 – March 01, 2024)

With heavy hearts, we mourn the loss of our beloved Shelby Lynn Mixon, who departed from this world unexpectedly on March 01, 2024. Shelby’s bright light was extinguished far too soon, leaving behind a profound sense of loss that will be felt by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Shelby was born on September 17, 2001, in the vibrant city of Valdosta, GA, to her adoring parents, Jennifer and David Mixon. From a young age, Shelby’s zest for life was evident to all who crossed her path. She possessed a rare compassion and love for people that set her apart. Throughout her 22 years of life, she brought joy and laughter to those around her. Shelby was known for her infectious smile, kind heart, and loving spirit.

She graduated from Coastal Plains Charter School and had so many hopes and dreams for her future. Shelby had a natural talent for making friends with everyone she met. She always embraced strangers with open arms and made everyone feel like they were a part of her life as if she had known them since childhood. She loved her community and cherished her time volunteering at local homeless shelters such as Lamp with other family members. She had hopes of continuing future aspirations to care for others, as that was truly one of her gifts.

Shelby’s adventurous spirit led her to meet so many new people and create cherished memories with friends and family. Whether she was doing things she loved, or simply spending time with loved ones, Shelby embraced life to the fullest.

She is survived by her parents, David and Jennifer Mixon, her siblings, Kayla Nations (& Joseph), Tyler Mixon (& Ashley) and Bryce Mixon, her maternal grandparents Jerry and Olivia Ursrey, paternal grandmother Linda Mixon, and other loving family members who will miss her dearly. Shelby’s legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who were touched by her presence.

A public visitation with Shelby’s family to grieve and celebrate Shelby’s life will be held from 5 until 7 pm on Wednesday, March 6th, at Carson McLane Funeral Home. The family will have a private graveside service at a later time.  The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. In remembrance of Shelbys life, the family asked that any charitable donations be made to The Haven at PO Box 5382 Valdosta, GA 31603 or www.valdostahaven.org. Flowers or any other memorial contributions are equally welcome. Condolences may be conveyed to the family on the obituary page of www.mclanecares.com. Carson McLane Funeral Home

“When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. You are precious to me. You are honored, and I love you. For I am the Lord your God, your savior.” Isaiah 43:1-2
