Sarah Ashley Giles

Sarah Ashley Giles, 92, of Valdosta passed away on Monday, October 4, 2004 in Winter Park, FL. Born on June 1, 1912, in Rochelle, GA, she was the eldest daughter of the late William A. Ashley and Sarah Eliza McCallum Ashley. At the age of ten she moved to West Palm Beach, FL. She was a member of the youth orchestra, numerous art clubs and the swim team at West Palm Beach High School. Mrs. Giles was a graduate of Georgia State College for Women. Sarah and her husband, Nelson, moved to Valdosta in 1945 where she lovingly reared four children and assisted her husband at Giles Drug Company. She was a member of First Christian Church of Valdosta and was active in Sunday school and the Christian Women’s Fellowship. Sarah was also a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Giles in June of this year. Surviving are their four children, Grover Nelson Giles, Jr. of Oakland, CA, Michael Ashley Giles of Valdosta, Phyllis Giles Bolen of Winter Park, FL, Pat Giles Chitty of Valdosta and eight grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., on Saturday, October 9, 2004 in the Sunset Hill Cemetery with Dr. Milton West officiating. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
