Georgia Ruth Gill Herndon, 85, of Lake Park, died on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at the Suwanee Valley Nursing Center in Jasper, Florida following a lengthy illness. She was born on May 10, 1940, in Lawtey, Florida to the late Raiford and Lelia Miller Gill. Ruth was raised by her mother and stepfather Albert Law. Ruth retired from Owens-Illinois and had worked on the assembly line then worked with her husband, Billy, Sr., on their farm. As a farmer’s wife, Ruth worked alongside her husband with the planting and harvesting of crops but also enjoyed working in her yard and her flower beds. Ruth also enjoyed going to Keaton Beach with her family fishing and scalloping and loved cooking up what she and the family had caught. She was a member of Wright’s Chapel Church.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Billy, Jr., and Beth Herndon of Lake Park; a sister, Robbie Henderson of Cherry Lake, Florida; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Imogene and Randy Neesmith of Lake Park and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her husband, Billy Herndon, Sr., her daughter, Terry Herndon and two sisters, Betty Hamms and Rhonda Webb.
Services for Ruth Herndon will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 9, 2025, at Wright’s Chapel Church with Pastor Derek Herring officiating. The burial will follow in the Wright’s Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Wright’s Chapel Church P.O. Box1015 Lake Park, Georgia 31636.
