In Loving Memory of Ruby Luke Grumet

Ruby Luke Grumet, 79, beloved mom, grandma, and dear friend, passed away peacefully May 18th, 2024, after a brave and heartbreaking journey with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Born on November 17th, 1944, in Valdosta, Georgia, Ruby was the daughter of the late T.J. and Edith Adams Luke and widow of Lt. Colonel David Grumet.  Ruby brought joy and more than a touch of sparkle and zest to all who knew her.  She used to frequently joke that when the time came, she wanted the phrase ‘she wasn’t ready’ engraved on her stone, because she intended to live every moment she had to the fullest.  Ruby was strong, determined, independent, beautiful, funny, cheered for those around her, and was notably kind.  Her daddy owned a shoe store and would pass out shoes on the street to any child who needed them.  Ruby inherited that same generosity of heart and spirit, always willing to help both friend and stranger in need.

Ruby wore many different hats as she travelled the world during her late husband’s service in the United States Air Force.  From being a full-time mother to twins, to military party-planner and hostess extraordinaire, to skillfully running a household that was constantly packing and unpacking, to earning her real estate license, and then finally embracing the retired life in Georgetown, Texas, she made a difference everywhere she went.

Ruby is survived by her twin daughters Kandice Stellmon and Kirsten Grumet, sons-in-laws Scott Stellmon and Ed Still, her beautiful granddaughter Davi Kate Stellmon, her brother Tommy Luke, nephews Jason Luke and Alexander Luke, and her best friend and partner, Art Barnard, who will all hold her in their hearts forever.

One of Ruby’s favorite memories are the many summers she spent at her family’s home on Twin Lakes, floating for hours in an old inner tube or raft.  Rest peacefully, dear Mom.  We hope you are floating gently on a lake somewhere.  We miss you.

Ruby will be laid to rest at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens in Valdosta, Georgia during an intimate family celebration on May 25th.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Alzheimer’s Association in honor of Ruby Grumet, https://www.alz.org/donate.
