Roy Eugene Lawson, 74, of Meridianville, Alabama, entered his eternal rest on February 13, 2026 in Huntsville, Alabama. Known affectionately as "Papa" to his children, he was born on May 10, 1951, to Howard Irvin Lawson and the late Irma Jean Knight (Rogers).
Roy has lived a life marked by devotion. After graduating from Georgia Tech with a degree in Electrical Engineering, he served 27 years in the U.S. Army as a Captain and Aviator (Pilot). In 1990, Roy married the love of his life, Yong (Oh) Lawson, and together they built a blended family rooted in loyalty and warmth. He was a steady presence and a patient teacher.
He is survived by his father, Howard Lawson; beloved wife, Yong Lawson; and his children, Cory (& Eliana) Lawson, Roy II (& Yumi) Lawson, Travis (& Diane) Lawson, Mary Kay (& Tom) Powers, John (& Valerie) Ko, and Cha Won (& Karen) Ko; Roy was a proud grandfather to twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, with a third arriving this summer. He is also survived by his siblings Roger (& Virginia) Lawson, Sharon (& Rob) Williams, Susan (& Ed) McMinn, Alan (& Sharona) Russell, Steve Lawson, Irvin (& Barbara) Lawson, and Jackie McLeod.
Roy was an active member of the Whitesburg Baptist Church in Huntsville, Alabama, and regularly attended the Morven Baptist Church during his youth. His legacy is one of faith, service to his country, humility, and unwavering love.
A funeral service for Roy will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 21, 2026, in the Morven Baptist Church and officiated by Rev. Jim Pitt and Rev. Jerry Herring. A graveside (burial) service will follow at the Mt. Zion Campground Cemetery.
