Ronald Roy Zimmerman

Ronald Roy Zimmerman 62, of Valdosta, died suddenly Friday Oct 22, 2004, two days after his birthday. He was born Oct 20, 1942, in Burke, South Dakota, to Dora Ackerman Zimmerman and the late Roy F. Zimmerman. He was the middle child of three. He was a practicing pathologist in Valdosta for the past eleven years, since moving here from Nairobi, Kenya.
He attended Doan College in Nebraska and Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine where he graduated in 1970. He studied Internal Medicine for two years before changing to Anatomical and Clinical Pathology and became board certified. He took a fellowship from Harvard University and the Millbank Group which took him to Nairobi in 1974.
He was a lecturer, professor of medicine, and a published numerous journal articles during his ten years in East Africa. He is survived by his wife of thirty-one years, Gwyloer A. (Gwen) Zimmerman, his five sons Damian, Nicholas, Ian, Colin, Sean, his mother Dora, of Burke, South Dakota, his brother Larry Zimmerman and wife Jean of New Lisbon, Wisconsin, his sister Karen and her husband Don Wallace of Miami, Florida and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends all over the world in particular J. Stuart Armitage and Robert Ashworth of Nairobi, Kenya, and Dr. Paul Ulbrich of Chicago, Illinois.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday Oct. 30, 2004 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. With Father John O’Brien officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour before the service. According to his wishes, he will be cremated, and his ashes scattered at a later date. Carson McLane Funeral Home is serving the Zimmerman family.
