Ronald F. Giles, age 90, of Valdosta, peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at Langdale Hospice House. Born in Moultrie, Georgia, on January 1, 1935, Ronald was the beloved son of the late Benjamin Franklin “Frank” Giles, Sr., and Mamie Ree Taylor Giles.
Ronald was a lifelong learner and dedicated professional. He graduated from Colquitt County High School in the early 1950s, attended Norman Park Junior College, and served briefly in the United States Army Signal Corps. Following his military service, he pursued higher education at Georgia State University, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration, and furthered his studies at Emory University School of Law.
Ronald began his accounting career in Gainesville, Georgia, before settling in Valdosta in 1964. He co-founded Stewart, Giles & Company with Richard Stewart. In 1986 he merged with a firm that became known as Alday, Davis, Wright, and Giles PC. He served as managing partner and specialized in tax and estate planning until his retirement in 1997. Ronald was an esteemed member of the Georgia Society of CPAs, a charter member of Beta Alpha Psi National Accounting Honor Fraternity, and a past president of the Valdosta Kiwanis Club. He was also among the first in Georgia to earn the Personal Financial Specialist designation from the AICPA.
A devoted family man, Ronald cherished his time at the family farm and was instrumental in founding Valwood School. He was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church and later Redeemer Presbyterian Church, serving in many roles including treasurer.
Ronald is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Beverly O’Connor Giles of Valdosta; daughters Lisa Giles Gilchrist, Linda Ann Giles, and Sherri Giles (Tim) Parker; grandchildren Savannah Jane Gilchrist, Thomason Alexander Gilchrist, and Jourdan Angel Corker; brother and sister-in-law Ben and Beverley Giles; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Buck Giles and Ellis B. Giles.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Horne officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time. A private graveside committal will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Redeemer Presbyterian Church (3338L Country Club Road, Suite 1 PMB 230, Valdosta, GA 31605).
