Robert Norman (BC) Starkson

July 24, 1956 - October 30, 2025

Robert was born to the late Robert O. and Helen Brady Starkson at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Tx. He and his family lived throughout the United States as his father was career Air Force.

He dreamed of being an Air Force pilot and flying jets. At 16 he was diagnosed with the eye disease Retinitis Pigmentosa and those dreams were shattered. He played all sports in school but especially enjoyed football. He drove cars and motorcycles until he was 21. BC then went to Warm Springs Rehabilitation Center and was evaluated. He learned braille and life skills. It was discovered his IQ was extremely high. Valdosta State University was his next stop.

BC obtained his Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Psychology from VSU. His first career job was in Jacksonville, FL as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor with the Division of Blind Services. It was there he started with computers that would be his life. He listened to every manual he could find on computer technology for the blind. He next worked at Mississippi State University as a Computer Trainer for the Research and Training Center. His last professional job was for Veterans Affairs in Birmingham AL as the first Supervisor of the Computer Training Program for blinded Veterans. BC excelled in every job because of his love for computers and wanting the blind to succeed in life. He earned many awards. He travelled throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, South America, American Samoa teaching counselors new and innovative computer programs for the blind.

Robert married his endless love, Katina Dasher Starkson on December 19, 1981 at Mt Pleasant Church of Christ in Valdosta, Ga. Katina's parents, Robert and Claudia Dasher welcomed him with open arms and they truly came to love each other.

BC and Katina were fortunate to travel the world together and have so many great memories.

Robert struggled with health issues the last 17 years of his life but it never showed. He was always happy, upbeat and never lost his sense of humor.

Rest in peace my love.
