Robert Warren Elder Jr., 82, of Valdosta, GA, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2026 at his home. He was born on July 18, 1943 to the late Ruth Miller Elder and Robert Elder Sr. in Macon, GA.

Mr. Elder Jr. served in the Air Force and was part of the 347 Tactical Fighter Wing. He then retired in 1983 and devoted his life to serving others. He was a Sunday School teacher at Morningside Baptist Church where he was also a member of the choir for many years. He faithfully served his country, his family, and his Lord and Savior. He was an amazing husband, father, and paw paw, and loved dressing up as Santa Claus.

Mr. Elder Jr. is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shelvy Elder of Valdosta; children, Robert (Amy) Elder III, Gina (Philip) Reid, both of Valdosta, Lisa (Michael) McDowell of Statesboro, GA, and Eric Elder, of Duluth, GA; 13 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; his brother, Dennis (Linda) Elder of Alma, GA; his brother-in-law, Jerry Leverette of Alma, GA; his sister-in-law, Judy Elder of Middleburg, Fl; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Mark and Ronnie; and his sister, Betsy Leverette.

The funeral service for Mr. Elder Jr. will be held on Thursday, June 4, at 3 p.m. at Morningside Baptist Church with Dr. Wayne Robertson officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.
