Richard Stephen Miller Sr. passed peacefully at home in his sleep this week, following a recent illness.
Richard was born on February 20, 1951, in Valdosta, Georgia, the youngest child of Bowling D. Miller Sr. and Cerece Walker Miller. He graduated from Lowndes High School in 1969 and went on to earn an Architectural Drafting degree from Valdosta Technical College. Richard began his career working for Joe Bright Architect, and taught drafting at Lowndes High School. His professional career spanned more than 30 years as a partner at CMA Architectural Firm. A respected professional and beloved figure in his community, Richard also proudly served on the Remerton City Council.
Richard is survived by his only son, Steve Miller, his wife Tracy, and his two cherished grandchildren, Sage and Reese Miller, all of Valdosta. He is also survived by his sisters, Lyndall Webb, of Valdosta, Tricia Duggan of Statesboro, and brother, Bo Miller Jr of Valdosta. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mona Delk, and brother, Mancel Miller. Richard is also lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Those who knew Richard will remember his warm personality, kindness, and joyful spirit. He was always there for anyone in need. Richard loved listening to albums, playing music with friends, and traveling. At the age of 14, he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma and given six months to live. He beat the disease twice and remained deeply grateful for every day of his life. Richard often said he had already cheated death for 60 years, and that every moment beyond that was a gift.
Richard’s legacy will live on through his son and grandchildren, his dear friends, his family, and all those whose lives he touched.
A graveside service will be held at 11am on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at Ousley Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will visit on Friday from 5-7pm at the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Online condolences may be shared at www.mclanecares.com.
