Richard Lewis Rykard, 77, of Valdosta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026, after a long illness, surrounded by the love of his family.
Richard was born on June 9, 1949, in Valdosta, Georgia, to the late Lewis and Pauline Rykard. A lifelong resident of the Valdosta area, Richard shared 59 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sharon. Together they built a loving family that became the center of his life and greatest source of pride.
Richard was the owner and operator of R & R Plumbing Company for 32 years. He took great pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and willingness to help others.
Richard also had a passion for old cars and enjoyed participating in classic car shows. He loved deep-sea fishing and cherished every opportunity that he could get on the water. He also found great joy in playing his guitar and singing, sharing music with family and friends throughout his life. Above all, Richard loved his family deeply. He found his greatest happiness in being a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and he treasured every moment spent with those he loved.
Richard is survived by his devoted wife, Sharon; his daughter, Angela Snyder and her husband, David; his son, Andy Rykard and his wife, Amy; his sister, Betty Lou Redding and her husband, Herman; his grandchildren, Haley Gay and her husband, Brandon; Hayden Mainor and her husband, Davis; Elizabeth Rykard and Abigail Rykard; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Braeley and Bristol Gay, and Batie, Blakely, and Brantley Mainor.
Richard will be remembered for his kind heart, quiet strength, unwavering work ethic, and deep love for his family. His life was one of integrity, generosity, and devotion. Though he will be greatly missed, the love he shared, and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A funeral service for Richard will be held on Tuesday, June 30 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Rev. Joey Taylor officiating, and burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends the evening prior on Monday, June 29 from 5 – 7 p.m. Online condolences may be shared at www.mclanecares.com.
