Richard C. "Pete" Sandlin, Sr.

Richard C. “Pete” Sandlin, Sr., age 69, passed away at his home in Lake Park on Monday, November 20, 2023. He was born on October 15, 1954, in Valdosta, Georgia, to the late Joe Long Sandlin, Jr. and Dorothy Hughes Sandlin. Pete graduated from Echols County High School in the early 1970s and immediately joined his father and brothers in the family business, Joe Sandlin Logging. For 50 years, he dedicated himself to the family trade until his retirement in August of this year. Pete cherished his family above all else, his wife Elise, who he had been married to for 30 years until her passing in June, and his beloved children and grandchildren. He spent his Sunday afternoons ensuring his grandchildren had money for ice cream the following week. As well as he found joy in spending time with his cousin George Sandlin and engaging in lively discussions to solve the world's problems. If you knew Pete, you couldn’t help but love him.

Pete is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and Chase Williams of Dasher, his son Richard “Bubba” Sandlin, Jr. of Gulf Port, MS, his son and daughter-in-law Trey and Cassie Sandlin of Lake Park, and his son Justin Sandlin of Lake Park. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Rylie Williams and Natalie Williams of Dasher, and Chandler Elise Sandlin of Lake Park. Pete is also survived by his sister Dorothy S. Corbett of Echols County, and his brothers Wayne and Norma Jean Sandlin, Buck and Shirley Sandlin, Jim and Dale Sandlin, Bob Sandlin, and Don and Connie Sandlin, all of Echols County. His sister-in-law Dorothea and Mark Kinsey of Lake Park, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, also mourn his loss. Pete was preceded in death by his wife Elise DeAnne Sandlin and his sister Susie Isgro.

A private graveside service will be held at Carter Cemetery, and the family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, from 6-8pm at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed online at www.mclanecares.com.
