Randall (Randy) Hill, 72, of Valdosta, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.

Randy was born in Savannah, Georgia, on April 8, 1954, to William "Billy" and Carolyn Hill. Soon afterward, the Hill family moved to Valdosta, where Randy became a lifelong resident. He grew up with his two sisters, Christa Hill Walker and Susie Hill Tison.

From a very young age, Randy was fascinated by anything mechanical. He loved taking things apart to understand how they worked and often said, "I wanted to understand how things worked." During his teenage years and throughout high school, he and his friends enjoyed working on cars and making them go fast.

Randy graduated from Valdosta High School in 1973 and enlisted in the Army National Guard. Throughout his life, he held several different jobs, but his favorite was serving as a firefighter and engineer with the Valdosta Fire Department. He took great pride in serving his community and valued the camaraderie he shared with his fellow firefighters. On his days off, Randy also operated his own painting and home remodeling business.

On July 28, 1978, he married his soulmate and the love of his life, Debra "Debbie" Stokes Hill. They welcomed their only child, Travis, on April 11, 1982. Shortly after Travis was born, Randy left the fire department and entered the apprenticeship program at the Clyattville Paper Mill, then owned by Owens Illinois (OI). Over the years, he held several positions before finding his calling as a mechanic and machinist, a role he enjoyed for many years. Randy loved his coworkers and often came home with stories about them. He especially enjoyed the challenge of designing and fabricating parts for machinery. His work at the paper mill became more than a career—it became part of who he was.

After 24 years of service, Randy retired in 2006 due to complications from a cancer diagnosis he had received the previous year. He faced that battle with remarkable strength and determination for nearly 22 years until his passing.

Randy will be remembered as an exceptionally intelligent man with a wonderful sense of humor. He believed that anything worth doing was worth doing right and approached every task with care and determination. A man of Christian faith and unwavering integrity, Randy was someone others could always depend on. He kept his word, did the right thing even when no one was watching, and remained true to himself throughout his life. Although he endured many years of illness and the challenges that came with it, he never allowed his sickness to diminish his spirit.

Of all the titles he held throughout his life, none meant more to him than being Debbie's devoted husband and Travis's loving father. He consistently put his family before himself, sacrificing for those he loved without hesitation. Randy was truly one of a kind, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.

Randy is survived by his wife, Debra Hill of Valdosta; his son, Travis Hill (Angie Boyd) of Valdosta; his sisters, Christa (Terre) Walker of Valdosta and Susie (Bruce) Tison of Waycross; his aunt-in-law, Jean Orton of Valdosta; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Charlie and Sue Stokes; and his aunt, Sarah Margaret (John) Peters.

Services will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with burial to follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.
