Ralph S. Daugharty, 94, of Howell, GA passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at South Georgia Medical Center. A lifelong resident of this area he was born on February 25, 1929, to the late Frank and Lizzie Daugharty. Mr. Daugharty graduated from Echols County High School and attended Massey Business College of Jacksonville, FL. He enjoyed being with his family, hunting, caring for his cattle, riding the dirt roads, and observing all of God’s natural beauty of the forest. He was a member of the Wayfare Primitive Baptist Church in Echols County. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the Korean Conflict from 1952-1953 for 23 months as Sergeant 1st class. He married the love of his life, Juanita Moore, on April 17, 1954. At a young age, Mr. Daugharty fell in love with forestry. For a short period, he worked with Southern Railroad, but decided to make his living by farming and site preparation. He and his brother, Seward Daugharty, owned Daugharty Brothers. During this time, Ralph was presented with Man of the Year of Soil and Conservation Alapaha Certificate. He also served on the Board of Education of Echols County Schools for a short period of time. Later, Mr. Daugharty and his son, Danny Daugharty, went into business together as Daugharty Forestry. During the last days of his life, he had many hospital stays. He wanted everyone he loved and all he met, to know his love of Jesus.
Mr. Daugharty is survived by his wife, Juanita Moore Daugharty, of Howell; a daughter, Sandra Daugharty; and a son, Danny Daugharty, of Howell; his grandchildren, Ryan (Elizabeth) Ladrow, and Mallory Ladrow; and his great grandchildren, Hunter and Brooke Ladrow, all of Yulee, FL, sister-in-law, Janice Daugharty, Sister-in-law, Reida (Robert) Johnson, and brother-in-law, Terry (Frances) Moore. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Diane, his parents, and eight siblings, Kenneth, Bruce, Willis, Warren, Seward, Ruby, Iris, and Mary Emma.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at Wayfare Primitive Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5-7pm at the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Online condolences may be conveyed at www.mclanecares.com
