Rachel Garland, 89, of Valdosta, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. She was born in Darlington, South Carolina, to the late Elizabeth and Boyd Polson on September 7, 1937.
Mrs. Garland graduated from Hartsville High School in the mid 1950s and attended college at Coker College, also in Hartsville, SC, and from there she moved to Orlando in 1970. For several years, she was the Vice President of Personnel for Sun Trust Bank, and she later worked at First State Savings Bank. She also worked at Campus Crusade for Christ in Orlando for nearly a decade. Mrs. Garland was a member of First Baptist Church Orlando and later First Baptist Church Daytona, and went on mission trips to Russia, Alaska, and local efforts.
Following her retirement, Mrs. Garland’s family moved to Burnsville, NC for 18 years before moving back to Port Orange to be closer to the beach. Mrs. Garland loved humor and laughter, and was a certified Clown, regularly visiting hospitals to encourage young patients. She remained “prissy” even to her last days.
Mrs. Garland is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jacki & Willie Beasley of Hahira; son and daughter-in-law Randy & Colleen Parnell of St. Cloud, FL; grandchild, Brett (Missy) Beasley of Marietta, GA; and five great grandchildren. She was preceded by her parents; her husband, Ray Chandler Garland; and her grandson, Ryan Beasley.
