Neuland Wallace Garner

January 1, 1945 — May 26, 2022

Neuland Wallace Garner, 77, of Hahira, died on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Valdosta on January 1, 1945, to the late Neuland W. Garner and Margaret Garner Tankersley. He joined the Navy the day he turned 17. He served two tours in Vietnam aboard the USS Currituck (The Wild Goose) and the Iwo Jima. Upon completion of his time in the Navy, he went to work for Norfolk Southern Railroad as a conductor. He was known to be a man who did not have to back up to receive his paycheck. His work ethic surpassed most he came in contact with. He worked as a conductor for 20 years and trainmasters he worked under knew they could depend on him to get the job done and done right. He started Garner Well Drilling in 1967 while maintaining his job at the railroad. He was an active and faithful member of the North Valdosta Road Church of Christ and no one will ever be able to know or measure the lives he touched. One of his favorite sayings was that all you take with you when you die is your name. Make it a good one.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jan Garner of Hahira; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jason Garner, and Kevin and Buffy Garner; his daughter and son-in-law, Mindy and Scott Moore all of Valdosta; a grandson and his wife, Christian and Savannah Moore, and five granddaughters, Macie Garner, Ally Garner, Katie Garner, Brooke Moore, and Brittni Moore, known as “the Garner Girls”; his great-granddaughter, Sutton Blair Moore; his siblings and their spouses, Bruce and Evelyn Garner, Sally Garner Wilkinson, and Don and Theresa Garner; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, David Bailey, Danny and Iris Bailey and Jack Mullis; nieces and nephews, Jonathon and Malissa Garner, Emily and Justin Hydrick, Ashli and Justin Rogers, Sheri Garner Jackson, Alena Mullis, Andy Mullis, and Deidre Bailey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Eddie Long (Dodie) Tankersley, his in-laws, Fred and Betty Lou Bailey; his daughter-in-law, Michelle (Belle) Garner; a sister-in-law, Martha Bailey Mullis; two brothers-in-law, Ronald (Pee Wee) Bailey and David C. Wilkinson, and two nephews, John Timothy Garner and Justin Mullis. The family wishes to express their heart-felt thanks to Hospice of South Georgia for the care given and a very special thanks and appreciation for his nurse, Julie Wingate.
A private family memorial service was held at Dasher Cemetery on May 28, 2022. The family request donations be made in memory of Wallace to Hospice of South Georgia or Georgia Christian School. Condolences to the family may be conveyed online at Carson McLane.
