Nannie Beth Sims Lawson, of Valdosta, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. She was born in Berrien County on April 11, 1934. Beth worked as a young woman at the telephone company, Sears and Colquitt EMC. She was later employed by the Department of Family and Children Services and retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections at Valdosta Correctional Institute. 

Beth married William T. Sims on July 21, 1953, she is survived by her children, Ann (& Terry) Reagan, Elaine (& Jamie) Southall, Ginger (& Dale) Marshall and Thomas (& Missy) Sims. Their marriage lasted until William died on September 9, 1996. She married Howard Lawson on August 24, 2002, they have been married for 21 Years. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Roger (& Virginia) Lawson, Roy (& Yong) Lawson, Sharon (& Robby) Williams, Steve Lawson, Irvin (& Barbara) Lawson, and Jackie McLeod. Beth was a member of Morven Baptist Church and formerly a member of Redland Baptist Church. Beth was an example of a true southern lady with her generous giving spirit. She was an excellent cook, hostess, and loved serving others. Her coconut cake was a family favorite.

She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Jennifer (& Brian) Gay, Stephanie Peterson, Bubba (& Paige) Southall, Stephen (& Tracy) Miller, Julie (& Travis) Roberts, Justin (& Laura) Sims, Will Hart, and Sarah (& Jarrod) Bailey; her great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Griffin Gay, Daniel and Stephen Peterson, Avery Southall, Sage and Reese Miller, Reid, Shiloh and Arden Roberts, Emily and Aubrey Sims, Anna Davis and Thomas Bailey. She is also survived by a number of step grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Beth is also survived by sisters, Maxine Carter, Mary Lou Carter, and sisters-in-law, Jean Register, and Louise Sims. Beth has many surviving friends and other family members whose lives have been enhanced by her Christian example of humility, generosity, and love. She will be greatly missed. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, Sesh H. and Cordie Lee Register, her siblings, Betty (& Roy) Waldron, Helen (& John) Courson, John R. Register, a son in law, Donny Shiver, a daughter in law, Cathy Sims, sisters and brothers-in-law, Sarah and Bill Ley, Jane and Charles Adams, Jack and Betty Sims, and Berry Sims and brothers in law, Billy Allen Carter and Charlie Carter.

A funeral service for Beth will be held at 10am on Saturday, June 8, 2024, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Jay Watkins and Rev. Jim Pitt will officiate. Burial will follow at Ousley Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5-7pm at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
