N.L. (Buster) Bassford, 84, of Valdosta died Friday, January 29, 2010 at South Georgia Medical Center after a short illness. He was born in Valdosta on December 8, 1925 to the late Ralph H. and Gladys Lezette Bassford and was a lifelong resident of Valdosta. Mr. Bassford was a member of the First Christian Church and veteran of the United States Navy having served in World War II. He was the owner of Bassford Packaging Corporation and a real estate developer. Mr. Bassford was a loving husband and father who enjoyed working, fishing and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Jessie Mae Bassford of Valdosta, two daughters, Beverly Bassford Purdy of Cordele, Lynn Bassford Mims of Valdosta, two sons and daughters in law, Bud and Joy Bassford, David and Kim Bassford all of Valdosta, his grandchildren, Alison Purdy Pina, Brooke Purdy, Sam Purdy, Jessica Mims Grow, Lee Mims, Marley Mims, Jake Mims, Trey Bassford, Mark Bassford, Brett Bassford, Downing Bassford and Landon Bassford, five great grandchildren, one sister, Mariann Bassford Hendrix, one sister in law, Jo Ann D. Bassford and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, David Purdy and two brothers, Ralph Bassford and Bill Bassford.
The family will receive friends at their residence on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at 320 W. Alden Avenue, Valdosta, GA from 2-4 p.m. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
