Montene Moore Gamel

Montene Moore Gamel, 86, of Valdosta, died Monday, January 10, 2011 at her residence. She was born on May 2, 1924 in Echols County to the late William M. and Nellie Matilda Davis Moore. Mrs. Gamel was the retired owner and operator of Nana’s Day Care in Barretts, a member of Perimeter Road Baptist Church, a training union teacher for toddlers, a member of the women’s organizations at church and a member of the Echols County Historical Society.

She is survived by her daughter, Teena Marie Gamel of Valdosta, two sisters, Hazel Jones and Evelyn Overmeyer of Thomasville, one sister in law, Peggy Moore Thigpen of Waycross. Mrs. Gamel is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jack C. Gamel, one son, Michael Jack Gamel, two brothers, Randall Moore and Louie Moore, two sisters, Mary Nell Creel and Bernice Register.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at eleven a. m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Jim Schappaugh officiating. Burial will follow at Wayfare Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from six until eight p. m. at the funeral home.
