Michael Oliver Etienne, age 64, of Valdosta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 12, 2026, leaving behind a lasting legacy of compassion, service, and love.

Michael was born in Zurich, Switzerland, on July 30, 1962, to Beatrice McClory Etienne and the late Donald Etienne. From an early age, he possessed a gentle curiosity about the world and a deep desire to help others—a calling that would define both his life and career.

A devoted humanitarian, Michael dedicated his professional life to bringing relief, hope, and dignity to underserved communities around the world. As a site manager and project officer for Mercy Ships, as well as a resource coordinator for several non-profit organizations, he traveled far and wide to meet people at their greatest point of need. His visionary work led to the construction of vital medical centers, schools, and clean water/sanitation systems across developing nations. Guided by a profound personal faith in the Lord, Michael also oversaw the construction of churches throughout Africa and was an active, beloved volunteer at Crosspointe Church in Valdosta.

When he was not serving others, Michael found peace and joy on the water. An avid sailor, he embraced the freedom and calm of the open seas, navigating life with the same steady grace and humble resolve that he brought to the mission field. Above all his accomplishments, Michael’s greatest pride and joy was his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Neysa Etienne; his cherished sons, Reece Josiah and Rigby Jonas, both of Valdosta; his loving mother, Beatrice Etienne; and his siblings, Robert (Louise) Etienne and Anne (Michele) Dessi, both of Geneva, Switzerland, and Karine (Steve) LeTourneau of Boulder, Colorado. He is also survived by numerous treasured nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear colleagues and friends across the globe.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Donald Etienne and his brother-in-law Aaron Reiss.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, September 19th at 3PM, Crosspointe Church, 4100 N Valdosta Rd. S, Valdosta, GA, 31602. The family welcomes online condolences and memories to be shared at: (www.mclanecares.com).
