Melissa “Missy” Coody, 56, of Lake Park, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at South Georgia Medical Center. Born on December 2, 1967, to the late Jimmy & Linda Gibbs in Albany, GA. Growing up in Adel, Missy graduated from Cook County High School. Soon after high school, she met Dan Coody on a blind date with friends in the late 1980’s. They soon started dating and were married on Sept 8, 1990, in Adel. Missy soon started her family and was a devoted mother and wife who worked hard on the farm and loved nothing more than caring for her family and friends in need. She especially enjoyed caring for her granddaughter, who called her “Gammie”, who was the apple of Missy’s eye. She was a member of Wrights Chapel Church of Echols County.
Missy is survived by her husband of 33 years, Dan Coody of Lake Park; two sons and a daughter in law, Jared & Taylor Coody of Statenville and Zach Coody of Lake Park; her beloved granddaughter, Lane Ivy Coody of Statenville and her sister, Angie Gibbs of Lake City, FL. She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Timmy Mitchell Gibbs.
The funeral for Missy will be held at 10 am on Friday, May 3, 2024, in the chapel of McLane Lakewood Funeral Home. Pastor Derek Herring and Pastor Zack Corbett will officiate. Burial will follow at Lake Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Lakewood on Thursday evening from 6 until 8 pm.
