Maudress Neoma Taylor Grantham, died on Friday, September 18, 2020 at the Orchard in Valdosta, Georgia. Born January 6, 1929 in Washington County, Florida, Maudress attended local school and graduated from Vernon, Florida High School in May 1947. She married Hughie Grantham on September 13, 1947 and they were married for 51 years when Hughie passed away with melanoma cancer in 1998. The Grantham’s moved to Atlanta after their marriage in 1947. Maudress began working with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company on West Peachtree Street. She continued to work in the insurance field for various agencies and companies. Her last 13 years of employment in Atlanta were with the State of Georgia in Human Resources at Georgia Regional Hospital. After Hughie retired in 1982, they returned to make their home in Florida and Maudress worked for Mulholland Real Estate Company and the Wausau, Florida post office. Shortly after her husband’s death Maudress moved to Valdosta in 2000 to be near her only son, Dr. Tim Grantham and his family. She joined the First Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the Joy Givers Choir and volunteering with the UWE Care Ministry.
A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Maudress is survived by her son and daughter in law, Dr. Tim and Susan Grantham, two grandchildren, Taylor and Maggie Grantham, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, and her parents, Willis and Lester Taylor.
Visitation for Mrs. Grantham will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at the Carson McLane Funeral Home from 4 -6 p.m. Graveside services and burial will be on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. CST, at Wausau Memorial Gardens in Wausau, Florida. Reverend Roger Dale Hagan will officiate. Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made to Langdale Hospice.
