Mary L. Mathis

Mary L. Mathis, 84, of Valdosta, passed away Saturday, November 1, 2014, at Fellowship Home.

She was born June 24, 1930 in Cairo, a daughter of the late Pless L. and Jewel H. Watson Truluck. Mrs. Mathis was a member of Northside Baptist Church; and for nearly forty years had been employed at C & S Bank, lastly as an Installment Loan Teller.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Edward Mathis, Sr.; two sons, Henry Edward Mathis, Jr. and Charles Julian Mathis; her brother and sister-in-law, Lenward and Virginia Truluck; and her brother-in-law, Everett Prestley.

She is survived by two daughters-in-law, Phyllis Mathis of Hahira, and Donna Mathis of Massachusetts; four grandchildren, Becky and husband Ray Parr of Hahira, Tamara and husband Jamie Oglesby of Hahira, Gregory Mathis of Massachusetts, and Kristian Mathis of Massachusetts; eight great-grandchildren, Walter, Jacob and Jaylee Oglesby, Zachary and Grayson Parr, Kira Mathis, Danielle Sanda, and Joseph Peter Sanda, Jr.; her sister, Patricia Prestley of Columbus; nieces and nephew, Rose Prestley of Columbus, Everett and Laura Prestley of Columbus, and Deborah and Larry Salyer of Seale, Alabama.

A Graveside Service for Mrs. Mathis will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2014, at Dasher Cemetery, with Rev. Bob Willis officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Carson McLane Funeral Home, Valdosta. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
