Martha Tootle

Martha Jenkins Tootle, 93, of Valdosta, died on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at Langdale Hospice House. Martha was born on December 26, 1929, in Alamo, Georgia to the late Ralston G. and Pearl Morris Jenkins. She was a retired fourth grade teacher with the Valdosta City Schools and a member of Northside Baptist Church and the Valdosta/Lowndes County Retired Teacher Association. She was a graduate of Georgia Southern University and a huge Atlanta Braves fan!

Survivors are her daughter and son-in law, Jamie Tootle Bird & Frank Bird, III of Jennings, FL; her grandchildren, Frank Bird IV of Thomasville, Martha Helen Bird (& fiancé Chandler Allen Barnes) of Valdosta, and James Rutledge Bird of Valdosta; sister in law and brother-in-law, Patricia and Wayne Tootle of Cairo; her nephews and nieces, Col. William Boyd Moon (& Artemis), Cleo Morris Jenkins, Jr. (& Pam), MSgt Paul Leslie Jenkins (& Jane), Angela Jenkins Pickle (& Frank); Pamela Jenkins Schwardt; Renee Tootle Griffin (& Kevin); Melanie Tootle Carter (& Michael) and a host of great- nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James Melton Tootle; her parents; her mother-in-law & father-in-law, Devonda Strickland and Fred Day Tootle; her brothers, Comer Leslie Jenkins, Ernest Thomas Jenkins, Ralston G. Jenkins, Jr., and Cleo Morris Jenkins, Sr. her sister, Frances Jenkins Moon; a nephew, Comer Jenkins Moon; and a niece, Betty Jenkins Fulton.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 17, at 2:00 at the Riverview Memorial Pavilion with the Reverend Bob Willis officiating.
