Leigh Reddick Long, 57, of Valdosta, passed from this life on Thursday, June 12, 2025. Born in Marietta on January 27, 1968, Leigh was the daughter of the late Graydon Dennis Reddick, Jr., and Evelyn Ellene Woodard. Leigh grew up in Cordele, graduated from Crisp County High School, she then continued her education at Valdosta State University, where she became a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and graduated with her master’s in education. She began her teaching career at Lake Park Elementary and taught there for several years before moving on to teach at Dewar Elementary School. Leigh taught at Dewar for over 20 years, where she forged lifelong friendships and made positive loving impacts on the lives of her precious students. She then taught at Scintilla for several years before her retirement in 2024.
In her younger years Leigh loved water skiing at Lake Blackshear and later as an adult she enjoyed time spent in St. Augustine. Full of grace and forgiveness Leigh was a true people person. She listened before speaking, answered thoughtfully, and shared her faith with all she encountered. She started her mornings at 5:00 a.m. with prayer and bible devotionals, sharing daily verses with friends and family by text or email. Leigh was a faithful member of Christ Episcopal Church where she served on the Vestry.
Survivors are her husband, Troy Long of Valdosta; daughters, Caroline and Pate Betts, Brooklyn and Alex Bledsoe all of Valdosta; stepdaughters, Allie Caroline Long of Sevierville, Tennessee, and Anna Claire Long of Valdosta; grandchildren John Preston Betts of Valdosta and soon expected baby Weston Palmer Bledsoe and stepgrandson, Steele Beckham Wetherington.
