Lawrence “Larry” Blakeney, 80, of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. He was born in Valdosta to the late Andrew & Marguerite Saunders Blakeney on October 20, 1945. Larry grew up here and attended school here before moving to Michigan after high school. In Oak Park, MI, he attended Andrews University, he also worked as a police officer and started an auto repair shop. He worked there for many years but then moved back to Valdosta with his family in the early 1990’s. Once returning to the area, he started Four Blakeney’s Auto Repair, which he had operated until the current time. Larry loved his family and also loved his animals. His favorite pastime was feeding his deer, the fish, his birds and many others.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Martie Blakeney of Valdosta; four daughters and a son in law, Viveca Humphrey of Detroit, MI, Tara Blakeney of Ray City, Marlece & Alexander Perdue of Eastpointe, MI, and Renee & Randall Brewer of Tennessee, his son and daughter in law, Todd & Terri Braden of Michigan; fifteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a son, Marcelle Blakeney.
