Larry "Alton" Corbett
October 2, 1942 – October 4, 2025
Larry "Alton" Corbett, age 83, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025, after a courageous battle with complications from a brain bleed caused by a fall and bladder cancer.
Born in Lake Park, Georgia, Alton was the beloved middle child of nine siblings born to Austin and Wynell Corbett. Raised with a strong farm-town work ethic, Alton carried those values with him when he moved to Florida to pursue a career. He enjoyed a long and successful tenure as a Meat Manager with Publix Super Market, celebrating his 28 years with the company before retiring.
Alton's lifelong love story began early with Mary Porter Corbett, his childhood sweetheart and wife of 64 years. Their parents were friends, and Alton declared his intention to marry Mary as early as third grade. His devotion to Mary was so steadfast that he kept other boys at bay throughout their school years to keep his promise. Together, they were affectionately known as "Poppy" and "Nanny" by their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild.
Faith and music were cornerstones of Alton and Mary’s life together. They nurtured a strong Christian faith in their family through their steadfast devotion to the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Music was a joyful thread woven through every family gathering, often led by Alton’s guitar and Alton and Mary’s voices. The couple was frequently found sharing their love for Southern Gospel music concerts across the country.
Alton was a man with a generous heart, constantly thinking of his family and supporting his church and community. A faithful member of the Church of God, he was a longtime attendee of Lake Park Church of God. His legacy of kindness and love touched countless lives—family, friends, and strangers alike. He will be fondly remembered for his infectious smile, mischievous wit, and his favorite phrase, “that reminds me of a song.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Wynell Corbett, and his youngest daughter, Katie Corbett.
Alton is survived by his devoted wife Mary; daughters Diane Anders (Jeff) and Sheila Schmidt (Jim); sister Phyllis Suggs (Wayne); nine grandchildren and their spouses: Jennifer Anders, Denell Jones, Blake Markham, Preston Howell, Fiona Hanewinkel, Jonathan Anders, Lance Howell, Dalton Corbett, and Sofia Wakefield; seventeen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom lovingly called him “Poppy.”
His grandson-in-law Phillip beautifully captured Alton’s spirit:
"When I think of him, I’ll always see the face he made when he began to laugh: Full of little boy mischief, his eyes in a squint, his mouth open and the silent, breathy laugh - that would build into a full chuckle - as he’d pull off his glasses and wipe the happy tears away."
The family will deeply miss that joyful laugh.
A funeral service to honor Alton’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 9, 2025, in the Carson McLane Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. A private committal will follow the service.

Rest in peace, Darling / Daddy / Poppy. Your love and laughter will forever live in our hearts.
