Katie Ruth Carter, 85, of Clyattville, died on Thursday, April 9, 2009, at her home after a lengthy illness. Born in Crisp County, Georgia, on March 31, 1924, daughter of the late William "Will" Sego and Mary Jane Faircloth Sego, Mrs. Carter was a lifelong resident of Lowndes County. She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and was active in "There Is More Ministries" at Living Waters at Balsam Grove, North Carolina. Ruth loved gospel music and sang at Watkins Music Hall until her health failed. She was a homemaker, a devoted caring mother to her three daughters and always supported her husband throughout his long public service career.
Survivors are her husband of 65 years, G. Robert Carter, Jr., of Clyattville; three daughters, Jayne Carter of Clyattville, Nancy (Rodney) Ellington of Clyattville, June (Mel) Ricks of Lake Park; sisters, Evelyn (George) Fender of Valdosta, Doobie Rogers of Callahan, Florida; sister in law, Rose Carter of Clyattville; special friend and long time caregiver, Mae Franklin of Valdosta; eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Ernest and Bill Sego.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2009, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Unity Cemetery. Reverend Nate Lehman and Reverend Dwight Bishop will officiate. The family will receive friends at the Carson McLane Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanefuneralservices.com.
