Katherine V. Sims, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and the heart of her family, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, at the age of 94.
Katherine lived a life rooted in love, faith, and family. She was the steady hand and calming presence who held everyone together. Known for her incredible cooking and generous hospitality, Katherine made sure no one ever left her home hungry—or without feeling truly cared for. Her garden was her sanctuary, where she found joy in watching things grow. But more than anything, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, whether it was around the dinner table, in the yard sharing stories, or simply being nearby.
She was the kind of woman who led by quiet example—strong, steady, kind, and full of grace. Her love ran deep, and her presence made others feel safe and at home. Katherine was the rock for many and a guiding light in both the good times and the hard ones.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas B. Sims; her daughter, Kathy Hunter; her brother; and nine sisters. She is survived by her son, Fred Sims, and his wife, Terri Sims. Her grandchildren—each of whom held a special place in her heart—include Tari Kinateder (husband, Eddie Kinateder), Shellie Perdigon (husband, Scott Perdigon), Carter Sims (wife, Riella Sims), and Jessica Batty (husband, Peter Batty). Katherine also leaves behind her treasured great-grandchildren: Kallisto Sims, Jake T. Perdigon, Emma Perdigon, Jane Perdigon, Avery Batty, Kate Batty, Rhett Batty, and Wrens Batty. She is also survived by her dear sister, June Rambo, and June’s husband, Evans.
A service to celebrate Katherine’s life will be held at 11am on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at McLane Lakewood Funeral Home, 3119 West Marion Avenue, U.S. Highway 41, Lake Park, GA 31636. The family will visit on Monday night from 5-7pm at the funeral home. Katherine will be laid to rest beside her husband at Carter Cemetery. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Katherine’s memory to the Boys & Girls Club of Echols County, P.O. Box 209, Statenville, GA 31648.
“To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.” Katherine believed in tomorrow. She believed in family, in faith, and in the kind of love that lasts through generations. Her legacy will continue to live on in the lives she touched and the love she gave so freely.
