Karen Chester

Karen Madilyn Chester, 77, of Valdosta, passed away at Fellowship Home on Monday, August 14, 2023. Daughter of Katherine Nelson and Sidney Joseph Bell, she was born in Jacksonville, Florida on August 8, 1946. Karen was the widow of Louis Edwin Chester, Jr., to whom she was married for over 50 years. She was a devoted Pastors’ wife, supporting her husband throughout the years of his ministry. Active in community’s wherever she lived, she was a champion blood donor for the American Red Cross, donating blood for 50 years. Karen loved to ride motorcycles and rode many charity rides for Toys for Tots. At Christmas, she and her husband enjoyed entertaining children as Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus. The glue that held the family together, Karen was a positive joyful person. She volunteered with the Walk to Emmaus, loved children, was a friend and advocate for all animals with a special attachment to cats.

Survivors are her daughter and son in law, Pam and David Sutton of Valdosta, daughter, Jennifer Doub of Valdosta; grandchildren, Chris and Red Wimer of Oklahoma, Laci and Norman Moore of Tallahassee, Chad and Christy Wimer of Oklahoma, Sheena Boykin and fiancé, Daniel Bell, Logan Jade Roberts, Kristal (Jason) Mallory, Heather Sutton, and David Lee Sutton; and sixteen great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Chester is preceded in death by her son in law, Micajah Bennett Roberts, and a son, Louis Edwin Chester, III.

Funeral services for Mrs. Chester will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023, at 11:00 am in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend Bill Blanchard and Reverend Jeff Palmer will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 am until 11:00 a.m. A committal service will be held in Jacksonville at Evergreen Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
