June 11, 1930 — February 11, 2023

Joseph H. “Joe” Davis, 92, of Hahira, died on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Langdale Hospice House. Born in Waycross to the late Clayton Thomas Davis and Ethel Taylor Davis (Brown), Joe has lived in this area for the past 55 years. Growing up in Waycross and attending Ware County Schools, early on he was given the nickname “Jake” and was known by schoolmates and some family members by this name. At an early age Joe went to work in the pulp woods to help support his family. In the early 1950’s, Joe met the former Melba Wolfe in Waycross, and they were married on August 2, 1952, and were married for 69 years prior to her death in October of 2021. Leaving the logging industry, Joe went to work at a service station in Waycross, and was transferred to Valdosta in the mid-1960’s. He worked for a few years with Direct Oil here before his health prevented him from working. Working in his yard and putting on yard sales were favorite pastimes for Joe. He was a faithful member of Lakeland Church of God for many years.

Survivors include his three children and their two spouses, Jerry Davis of Valdosta, Becky & Frank Briggs of Hahira and Bruce & Renee Davis of Lake Park; a son in law, Frank Davis and a daughter in law, Connie Davis. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, Clay Davis, Brad Davis, Allison (& Jonathan) Lamb, Ashley Douglas, Taylor Douglas, Jennifer (& Jessie) Davis, Katie Briggs, Franklin Davis, Tad Davis, Brandon Davis and Lakyn Davis; two sisters, Martha Keith and Geneva Douglas; numerous nieces and nephews as well as a special Pastoral friend, Rev. Bob Holland.

Besides his loving wife Melba, Joe was predeceased by two daughters, Darlene Davis and Jackie Archer as well as his son, Joe Davis.
