John Henry Davis, 86, of Valdosta, died on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born in Nashville, Georgia on September 15, 1938, to the late Henry Winston and Essie Sirmans Davis. Mr. Davis received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Valdosta State University (VSC) and was a veteran of the United States Army. After 36 years, he retired from civil service with his last assignment as manager of the Valdosta Social Security Administration office. He was an avid golfer, Georgia Bulldog fan and enjoyed working in his yard, especially mowing his grass. Mr. Davis was a member of Morningside Baptist Church
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Davis, and his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Tammy Davis all of Valdosta; his granddaughter and her fiancé, Rachel Davis and Andrew Steinkopf as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his son, Gary Davis, a brother, James Davis, and his sister, Billie Jean Ray.
Services for John Henry Davis will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Wayne Robertson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Davis will be buried in the Cat Creek Cemetery.
