Joella Blackburn

Joella Blackburn, 77 of Valdosta, died suddenly on Thursday, November 29, 2007, at her residence. Mrs. Blackburn was born in Nashville, GA to the late Raymond & Eunice Johnson. She taught school in her earlier years and started the kindergarten program at Christ Episcopal Church where she taught for 10 years. More recently, Mrs. Blackburn was a realtor here for almost 30 years; she also served on the board of the Valdosta Board of Realtors, served on the Valdosta Board of Education and with the Elks Aidmore Auxiliary. She was a former member of Lee Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son and daughter in law, Chip & Mary Blackburn of Mexico Beach, FL, a son Mike Blackburn and his fiancée Pam Bailey of Tallahassee, a daughter and son in law, Jill & Terry Hurd of Shreveport, LA and two grandchildren, Kayley & Conner Hurd, also of Shreveport, LA; and her beloved dog, Trixie. She is preceded in death by her husband, Veran O. Blackburn.
Funeral services for Mrs. Blackburn will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 3, 2007 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Rev. Charlie Scarbrough will officiate. The family will receive friends this evening, Sunday, from 5 until 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Valdosta/Lowndes Humane Society.
