Jo Ann McLeod, beloved mother, sister, and accomplished nurse, passed away peacefully and with her family surrounding her, at her home in Albany, Georgia, on Monday, July 14, 2025, at the age of 86.
Born on October 12, 1938, in Broxton, Georgia, Jo Ann was the daughter of the late Joseph C. Baker and Elizabeth Tillman Baker. Following her passion for caregiving, she pursued nursing at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, where she began her professional journey.
In the early 1960s, Jo Ann worked at the Paper Mill in Clyattville before dedicating many years to healthcare at South Georgia Medical Center. After relocating briefly to Ray City with her family, she returned to Valdosta and continued her nursing career with Dr. Youles and later Dr. Courson as a nurse practitioner. She retired in 2007, marking over three decades of compassionate service in medicine.
Beyond her medical career, Jo Ann was a gifted pianist, sharing her musical talent at recitals and weddings throughout South Georgia, touching the hearts of many with her artistry.
Jo Ann is survived by her sons, Kevin McLeod and Benjamin McLeod, both of Albany, and her brother and sister-in-law, William and Chris Baker of Thomasville, Georgia. Her warmth, dedication, and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
