Joan Henderson Belcher, aged 86, of Valdosta, peacefully passed away at her home on Monday, November 24, 2025, after a period of declining health. Born on September 5, 1939, in State Line, Mississippi, Joan was the beloved daughter of the late H.T. (Flick) Henderson, Sr., and Zola Preston Henderson.

Joan dedicated her career to the telecommunications industry as a skilled telephone communication equipment installer with GTE (later AG Communications and now Lucent Technologies). Her work took her across the United States, often alongside her late husband of 54 years, Berton Tensley Belcher, who was also employed by the same company. Following their retirement, Joan and Berton made their home in Valdosta, where they embraced a life filled with joy, friendship, and community.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Vanessa (Andy) Plair of Valdosta, and Valerie Judah of Dothan, Alabama; her son, Richard Dawson of Tampa; cherished grandchildren Sarah (Ryan) Parrish, Andrew Plair, Jared Judah; and great-grandchildren Wyatt Swann and Malei Parrish. Joan’s life was also enriched by many special relationships including her friendship with Evelyn Herndon of Lake Park, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who hold her memory dear. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband Berton and her siblings H.T. Henderson, Jr., Leon Henderson, Kenny Henderson, Michael Henderson, and Anita Henderson Fratto.

A memorial service celebrating Joan’s life will be held on Friday, November 28, 2025, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Reverend Robert Dawson officiating.
