Betty Jean Bennett, fondly known as “Jean,” passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at Langdale Hospice House after a lengthy illness. Born on January 15, 1938, in Lanier County, Lakeland, Georgia, Jean was the cherished daughter of the late Rossie Lee Moore and Elizabeth Jane Griner Moore.

A devoted member of the Airport Church of Christ, Jean was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She worked diligently as a dental assistant, demonstrating her commitment and care in her profession. Jean’s warm spirit shone brightest during her leisure time, where she enjoyed playing cards and treasured family trips to the mountains with loved ones. She was a wonderful cook and loved being in her kitchen.

Jean was the beloved widow of Ronald Jones (RJ) Bennett. She is survived by her devoted children: son Greg Bennett and daughter-in-law Marie Bennett, and daughter Sherry McDowell and son-in-law Mike McDowell, all of Lake Park. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren: Jerad and Trixie Bennett of Lake Park; Brittany and Justin Poore of Perry, FL; Broc and Dana McDowell of Valdosta; Kevin and Kayla McDowell of Hahira; Matthew McDowell of Lake Park; Whitney and Will Taylor of Lake Park, Garrod and Mikayla Sandlin of Valdosta. She was also a loving great-grandmother to Ethan, and Alexis Bennett of Kingsland, GA; MaKenley and Kellan Bennett of Lake Park; Grayson, Lawson, and Audrey Poore of Perry, FL; Paxton and Stella McDowell of Valdosta; Bowen and Millie McDowell of Hahira; Wellsley, Whidden, and Wynne Taylor of Lake Park, Fielding and Bennett Sandlin of Valdosta. She was also survived by her great great grandson Brooks Bennett of Kingsland, GA.

Jean was preceded in death by her sisters; Alene Dennis; Christine Hughes; Florine Carter; and Irene Rockwood.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Carson McLane Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. Mr. Mike Johnson and Mr. John Klimko will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Dasher Cemetery.
