Jane Maddox Stanaland, 81 of Valdosta, Georgia died peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Langdale of Hospice House after a battle with cancer, surrounded by her children. She was born in Thomasville, Georgia on November 24, 1944, to the late Dudley Jones Maddox and Edith Whittle Maddox. She attended Thomasville public schools, graduating from Thomasville High School in 1962. She was voted most talented and could never be found without song and music around with her angelic voice! Jane graduated from Valdosta State College in 1965, now Valdosta State University and majored in early childhood education. She was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. While at Valdosta State, she met the love of her life, Benjamin Stanaland of Valdosta, Georgia and they were married on June 14, 1964. They were married for 58 years prior to his passing in 2022.

Jane taught at Sallas Mahone Elementary School. She had a very special bond with her “teacher” friend group. Later, she joined her husband’s family business, Valdosta Greenhouses where she was able to share love and joy during times of celebration through directing wedding, decorating homes, holiday celebrations and many joyous occasions as well as helping console those mourning the loss of loved ones through flowers. After they sold Valdosta Greenhouses, she went back to her love of teaching children at Sallas Mahone in her later career where she retired from teaching. Throughout her life, she was always there to help serve others and did so unselfishly. Her love language would likely include fresh baked treats, a hot meal, or flowers to brighten and comfort others. In addition, while raising two children with her husband and a busy work life, she found time to volunteer and give of herself to the Valdosta Junior Service League where she served as President and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Cabaret Club, multiple book clubs, and the Cotillion Club. She also loved playing bridge with her Thursday bridge club as well as other bridge clubs. Her favorite highlights included cooking and supporting her children and grandchildren’s pastimes. She was passionate about her family and always found time to support Matt and Meredith’s activities from everything from sports for both, or dance and horseback riding with Meredith.

She was a devoted and faithful member of First Methodist Church in Valdosta, where she was active in her beloved Becky Anthony Sunday School class. She and Ben both enjoyed volunteering to work in the church office as needed. Jane also sang in the church choir and was in a circle group that did many service projects. She also volunteered on the alter guild and wedding committee and helped direct many weddings at the church. She was a loyal and caring friend to many that knew her. She loved decorating for the holidays and making family gatherings special. She formed a special bond with her friends in so many ways that they crossed her path as well as her neighbors, who all also cared for her as well. The family would like to thank her caregivers during her battle with cancer and the many friends and family that were there for all of us. During the short time they were with her they became like family. She also loved her dear childhood friends Dee and Brenda.

Jane is survived by two children and their spouses, Matthew Dudley Stanaland and his wife Karla Giddens Stanaland of Valdosta, Georgia and daughter and her husband, Meredith Stanaland Bass and Geoffrey Newberry Bass of Saint Johns, Florida. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Matthew Dudley Stanaland, Jr. of Valdosta, Laura Lynn Stanaland of Birmingham, AL, and Benjamin Maddox Bass of Saint Johns, Florida. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Beth Stanaland Boggs and her husband William Boggs of Jasper, GA and brother-in-law Steve Meadows Stanaland and his wife AubRay Martin Stanaland of Hahira, GA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many cousins. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her caring, thoughtful and giving spirit.

A funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday, July 20, 2026, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Charles Adams and Reverend Dr. Anthony McPhail officiating.
