Jane C. McLeod, 82, of Valdosta, died at her residence on November 5, 2025, after a lengthy battle with dementia. Born in Chester, SC on November 20, 1942, to the late Henry Hamlett & Sarah Wells Cannon, she and her family moved to Fitzgerald where Jane grew up. Early on it was recognized that Jane was a true people person and was very active in school activities. In 1960, Jane met Danny McLeod in Fitzgerald and they started dating. They were married on October 27, 1962, and celebrated 63 years of marriage this year. After nursing school, Jane worked briefly in Ben Hill County as a nurse before the McLeod’s moved to Valdosta in March of 1967. Not long after moving to town, they joined Lee Street Baptist Church and Jane soon started helping at Lee Street as the Church Hostess and Housekeeping Supervisor. Jane loved caring for people and cooking for many church events, but especially Wednesday night supper. She briefly continued as Hostess when Lee Street Baptist and Azalea City Baptist Churches merged to create Crossroads Baptist Church where she was also a member. She retired as Hostess in 2007. In the time since then, Jane focused on caring for her family, friends and her home, even as she battled dementia. But throughout her battle, she never lost her joy. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband, Danny McLeod of Valdosta, her daughter, Susan McLeod of Macon, her two sons and a daughter in law, Dan McLeod of Morven and Jeff & Tina McLeod of Tifton; and several grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held for Jane at 11 am on Saturday, November 8, 2025, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Matt Gay will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 am until service time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samaritans Purse at www.samaritanspurse.org. Condolences may be conveyed to the family on the obituary page of www.mclanecares.com Carson McLane Funeral Home
